13,000 new robots power Japan’s push for efficiency and next-gen vehicle production

Robot Deployment Hits 4-Year Peak

Japan Expands Robot Workforce. In 2024, Japanese automakers installed 13,000 industrial robots—a notable 11% increase compared to the previous year, marking the highest surge since 2020, according to data from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR).

Global Leader in Automation

Japan remains the world’s top producer of industrial robots, accounting for 38% of global output. The country now ranks fourth in robot density across all industries, outpacing both the United States and Germany in its automation efforts.

Preparing for the Future of Mobility

Facing rising global demand and tightening emissions regulations, Japanese car manufacturers are accelerating their shift toward battery-powered vehicles, hydrogen fuel technologies, and smart manufacturing lines designed for advanced automation.

Automotive Sector Drives Robot Growth

Japan Expands Robot Workforce. The auto industry now represents 25% of Japan’s total robot installations, trailing only the electronics sector. However, while auto installations surged, the electronics industry saw a 5% year-over-year decline, further underscoring the automotive sector’s growing reliance on robotics.
